Diaz Sign Art began as Diaz Painting and Decorating on March 9, 1979. Bill Diaz began the business advertising painting, decorating, house plans and signs. The painting and decorating portion of the business grew quickly in the first two years. The recession of the early 80's demanded changes, so Bill decided to concentrate on signs and artwork. As luck would have it, Floyd Fitzgerald, a sign painter in Pontiac, Il, moved his business to Arizona. What had been spotty sign work for Bill up to that time, grew into a full time occupation. Soon he had to leave his rural Chenoa, Il shop and seek a larger facility closer to the action in Pontiac.

The business outgrew its original Pontiac building and moved to its present location in 1981 and the name was changed to Diaz Sign Art. Word got out about the excellent work being produced by this shop, and because of the increased work load, Bill convinced Mike Rodino, an area artist, to help out. Bill and Mike worked together until 1989 when Mike began his own picture framing business, WallWorks, in beautiful downtown Pontiac. The need for another artist had become obvious as the work load continued to increase, so Bill convinced his wife,Jane, to end her part time teaching job at St.Mary's grade school in Pontiac and join the business. Until that time, all the work projects where designed and crafted by hand. Bill and Jane decided to purchase computerized sign making equipment, and the fine tuning of that portion of the business continues to this day.

Bill does the sign painting, murals, pinstriping, most of the design work and logos. Jane runs the office, helps with design work, schedules work, does calligraphy and artwork--mostly portraiture. This husband-wife team has proved to be a winning combination. In addition part time secretary, Lorene Adams, and the many college graphic arts students who have helped throughout the years have allowed Diaz Sign Art to extend its customer base to a 75 mile radius of Pontiac, Il. Today, in the north and cenrtal regions of Illinois, great logo design and eye catching sign layouts are mentioned hand in hand with Diaz Sign Art.
